Question

How to extract Server or Client Workspace files of other users ?

We have a situation wherein either a Product Manager or Organization Administrator needs to be able to retrieve either the user's Local Workspace content (from Users Desktop) or from the Server Side workspace of the user if the user has uploaded the contents but not checked in.

Is there any way this can be accomplished?

All I could do as Product Manager role was to see the other users workspace and just could delete it.

I could not even see the contents of the user's workspace.

On the client desktop if I see the user's local cache the filenames are not the real file names.

So unless someone logs in as that user and opens Pro/E the content cannot be retrieved.

This may not be the best solution, but can be still useful!

  • Copy target user's local cache to a separate folder without content files (i.e., copy complete .wf folder excluding only *.wfcont files)
  • Zip it and send it to PTC Technical Support and request for workspace name v/s contents
