PTC Windchill named user licenses - generics possible

Hello -

I need your help clarifying this (a survey of sorts):

Just curious does any Windchill customer/site there right now have a user
license for Windchill ProjectLink, PDMLink, MPMLink, Supplier, etc. that
allows you to do one of two things:

- Have an enterprise application extract data using a named user
license. A human may or may not actually use the license in conjunction.
Someone might create an Info*Engine or web service to add, report, or update
data in a Windchill database or vault.

- Use a named user license like workstation123 or shopflooruser456
or machinist234 (with or without MPMLink) so they can view manufacturing
work instructions or standard operating procedures until revision control
and change management of Windchill suite.

I'm getting mixed messages on this. Other sites have to have the same type
of things to consider.

I know PTC provides java code that can let you access data without being
authenticated i.e. using WindchillGW vs. WindchillAuthGW. So I'm guessing
there must be some sort of compromise to do something like I described
above. Especially if it is extract and/or read only access. We REALLY do
not want to give access to Oracle.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

David DeMay
