Remove unreferenced files

I do a weekly copy of my data vaults as part of a backup procedure. Once the vault is copied, I go into Windchill Utilities, File Administration and remove unreferenced files. By default the option is to delete these files, but I always do a move instead. Is there a preference setting to make move unreferenced files the default?

What you want is doable but I don't believe there is a preference setting to do it.

I was able to do it by editing one html file in Windchill.

By editing one other file I was able to I edited the text to say:

"Default is now checked: Move files instead of deleting?"

I'm working in WC 12.0 but from what I can see it looks like 11.1 and 11.2 would require the same edits.

I don't have an earlier version of Windchill to check.

If you are on board with editing the html file I can provide details.

If you do this I would document it under your customizations so that when you upgrade you remember do it there too.

Are you aware that you can automate both the weekly copy and the remove unreferenced files activities including using the "Move" option?

I just had a company contact me about writing a tool to do this.

The solution I went with is to write and schedule batch file that does two things.

1. copies the vault folders as you're doing

2. removes unreferenced files with the "Move" option.

Works great and like any backup procedure no human interaction is involved.

Something to think about.
