Support for Firefox

Did anyone here anything from PTC or at PTC/User concerning Firefox's
new version numbering and enterprise support? I would think it's a
nightmare for PTC to support when the version changes every other month.

Inversely it would also be good to hear from users what their plan is to
uptake these releases (validate and deploy) for Firefox, Chrome, IE9
etc.

However, in the case of FF, its changing so rapidly. We've on 4, no
wait 5, scratch that, 6. Seems Mozilla has given the Bronx cheer to the
enterprise. I had heard today that they'd like to move to a scenario
like Chrome where there is no visible version number.



I guess it makes FF support easier from their end, everyone is one the
same version. To quote Lucy from Peanuts as to why climbers chain
themselves together, "Its so when one falls, they all fall."

In reality, I believe vendors like PTC are going to have to state a
minimum version for Firefox and Chrome and simply do their best to keep
testing and release fixes as needed for newer versions. It's not like
the changes between Firefox 4, 5, and 6 were really that
earth-shattering, especially from a product stability standpoint. The
same applies to recent versions of Chrome.

Firefox and Chrome do turn the "test it to death and stay put until
you're forced to move" paradigm on its head. I think it's about time --
especially on the client end of things. Continuously testing and
updating for small changes along the way is a less disruptive model than
lagging further and further behind and then trying to catch up with a
huge expenditure of testing and struggling to accommodate a large set of
pent-up changes. The "giant steps" model is much more risky and
expensive overall.
