Question

Windchill Installation

While I am installing PDMLink 10.0 in my local system, it was asking the hostname of my machine. But it is not taking the name.

But when I am giving the IP address it is taking, again it is not the right way to do.

So what I will do?

Hey Sabyasachi,

It sounds like your machine does not know its hostname. You can edit the host file of the OS to add an entry which will set the IP address equal to the hostname of the machine. This way PDMlink will accept the hostname.

Hope this helps!

Thank you Hudson for the tips.

Onething I forgot to mentioned that , I installed in a Laptop. So when I give IP address in host name it is taking, but what if the IP address changes. As this is dynamic allocation under a router.

Can I put the IP address of loccalhost i.e. 127.0.0.1. Do you think it will work?

You use a hostname like "my.very.own.windchillinstallation.com" and associate that with 127.0.0.1. Always use a host name instead of an ip. It doesn't matter where you install it. Take a look at http://helpdeskgeek.com/windows-xp-tips/edit-hosts-file/
