Windchill alternate parts - replace an obsolete

Version: Windchill 12.0

Use Case: What happens to alternates of an obsoleted WTpart?

Description:

We have a WTPart which represents a packaging item. It is used in approximately 40 different BOMs. If we set up an alternate for this part, when it goes obsolete, will the alternate always remain the part the BOMs will reference? We are trying to avoid touching all 40 BOMs.

Nothing. The part will still show Obsolete and the alternate will still be there. There are no actions that are triggered if you change states unless you restrict access to the part via states.

Hi,

Yes, Nothing happens to the alternate part. However, 40 odd BOMs will still have the obsolete part, for which you may consider Mass Update of those BOMs where a single ECN will update all the BOMs without the need for manual work.

Cheers
