Question

Master/Replication Patch Installations

Good Morning All,

I have a Friday question for all you replication gurus out there. I have
a 9.1 M030 master site with 4 replica sites, and I need to install
multiple patches.

The question is, can I install all of the patches on the master site and
then update the replica's once, or do I have to update the replica's
after each master site patch installation?

It would be great if the CCSDsu.zip file was cumulative because it takes
a while to copy the ZIP file to the remote sites before the
installation.

Mike

Well, I didn't get any replies on this today, so I placed a call to PTC
and posed the same question. They told me that they had never tried this
before, and that they would recommend applying each patch on the master
and updating the replicas, then proceed to the next patch and repeat the
cycle.

Anyone have other experience doing this?

Mike

Mike,

Sorry I did not see this post. In my experience, what I have done is install all the patches on the master and then used the CCSDSU tool to update the replicas. I don't think you need to do it in the cycle that was suggested, the CCSDsu tool will update you replica with all the patches. I did this during the update to M060 from M020. I installed all the M060 patches on the master, then updated each replica using the CCSDsu tool and the windchill version command on each replica confirmed this for me. I did not have to install one patch, update the replica, and then repeat the cycle. THAT IS CRAZY.

Alexius,

I really thought it would work that way. Like you said, the other way is
crazy (and time consuming). THANKS for the confirmation that this
process works. I was planning on doing each patch on the master, saving
the CCSDSU.ZIP & MU5 files separately, and then trying the last one on
the replicas to see what happens just in case. That way I could apply
each one if needed. Thanks again!!
