Question

Elusive "SaveAs PDF" button

We're using WF3.0 M160 on a 32 bit and a 64 bit machine. I have the same
config.pro and config.win set up on both machines. However, on the 32
bit machine I have a SaveAs PDF button which saves the screen contents
as a PDF. On the 64 bit machine it is not there and no amount of
searching reveals it. Is it a ProE problem OOTB or is it Adobe or a
printer problem?

Here is a little more info on my set up for people kind enough to try
and help. I have Adobe acrobat 6.0 professional, Acrobat reader 9 on the
32 and 64 bit machines. My printer is on the 32 bit machine only. I also
have WF5.0 installed and can do it O.K. there via "Publish" but the
customer has yet to migrate to this. My "save as" button on the WF3.0 64
bit machine does not have an option for saving as a PDF.

It seems that WF3.0 64 bit ProE does not give the operator an
opportunity to save the screen as a PDF - unlike the same set up in 32
bit! I guess that was the answer I was sort of expecting from PTC,
things are never exactly the same. Thanks for all who replied and for
those sharing their work-arounds. Roll on WF5.0 as common usage, I know
a lot of you are on that Creo stuff where I bet this sort of thing never
happens.... Right?

I heard that during development of WF3, Adobe didn't have a 64-bit version of Acrobat available and that's the reason there is no 'Save As PDF' button in one version of Pro/E WF3.


I never did attempt to verify this info, so it could be totally incorrect.

That is correct, Adobe had no support for pdf's on 64 bit machines until wildfire 4 was developed.

There are still options to making a PDF from WF3 64 bit. My favorite is to
use PDF Redirect. You can find it on download.com or web search it. This
just creates a printer that you print to a PDF file. It allows you to
combine pages and adjust quality. There are other free pdf creators which
will get the job done also.
