threaded hole spec callout

My supervisor and I are having a "discussion" about how a threaded hole or shaft
should be shown on a drawing.
We would like to know what is the correct way to show the thread call out
on the drawing.

1) 1/4-28 ( with a fraction)
2) .250-28 ( decimal w/o the diameter sign)
3) (diameter sign) .250-28 (decimal with the diameter sign)

Does anyone know what is the correct way?
Does any one know what spec describes this, so I can prove it?
Pro-e shows it as a fraction 1/4-28
Can this be changed if required??

ASME B1.1 calls for the nominal sizes starting at ¼" and up as ¼, 5/16, 3/8, 7/16, ½........

Same holds true for the machinery handbook & Federal Standard H28A

I don't know the way you're leaning, but it appears Pro/E is notating them correctly. If you're leaning toward the standard, tell your boss to stick to managing and let you do what you do best. I've never heard anyone suggest that threads should be a .250-20 designation.

Hello Fred,
I hope this helps, 1 & 2 are acceptable not 3. If you need to change it, go to the UNC.hol and UNF.hol files located in the <load point="> \text\hole directory. The 1st column FASTENER_ID is how the thread will be called out in the note if you show it on the drawing. The following is straight from ASME Y14.6:
