In response to [username]

In the context of tweaking the layout to remove some unwanted empty space, I'd like to run this by you.

We currently have "in response to...", self explanatory.

We are considering changing it into this arrow (not sure what this character is called - anyone?). The functionality remains unchanged. It would save a fair amount of space, allowing other changes to take place on the page.  We know that the arrow  is a little discreet and should be bold, at least. Hopefully, this is intuitive enough. Thoughts?

    I don't think its intuitive at all. Or maybe I don't pick up on the clues well.

    It just looks weird or somewhat random to me.

    There is a lot of things on my phone that I don't/didn't understand until someone showed me (or I figured it out). When did the gear become the settings button for almost ever app? Who thought that up?  Maybe there is a specific symbol in the symbol language that means this already?

    I think it is OK. Why not just put the other person's name there without the "in response to" or the arrow?

    1 - @Dale_Rosema I think only the person's name is not enough intuitive.

    2 - We could do this with a "To". Might actually be the best option.

    3 - @StephenW    About symbols, something like this might do as well.

    Or a derivative of this:

     The #2 may be the easiest to implement and intuitive enough.

    How about: Author (guage) (rock name) From-To (previous author)

    I don't really understand the purpose for the change. It seems like it is already reasonable.

    I was thinking "white space" because the text "in response to" wrapped on the example, but I noticed that all ours do not.

    @olivierlp,

    Maybe you should look at the CSS and figure out what is forcing the word wrapping.  Seems like you could easily expand into this area:

    Indeed @TomU , we are looking into the CSS. Not to get too deep into the rabbit hole, but the line on the left of your red rectangle belongs to a header block. It shares the line with another header block, to the right of your rectangle, that contains the 3 dots menu and the date/time. These need to move correctly when the post has some level of indentation, as well as when the user sees it from a mobile device.
