Question
Creo 11 – STEP AP214 Import Resets Appearance to Grey at Assembly Level
Hi All,
I’m facing an appearance‑related issue when importing STEP AP214 files into Creo 11, and I’m looking for guidance or best practices.
Workflow and Issue:
- I export a STEP file (AP214 format) from Fusion 360.
- When I import this STEP file into Creo 11 as an assembly, all components appear with the default grey appearance.
- However, when I clear the assembly‑level appearance in Creo, the original part‑level appearances/colors are restored correctly.
- The same STEP file opens correctly with appearances intact in Autodesk Inventor, without any manual steps.
STEP Schema Used:
FILE_SCHEMA (('AUTOMOTIVE_DESIGN { 1 0 10303 214 3 1 1 }'));
Questions:
- Is there a way in Creo 11 to retain the original appearances automatically when importing STEP AP214 assemblies?
- Is this behavior related to how Creo handles assembly‑level vs part‑level appearances during STEP import?
- Are there specific STEP import settings, config.pro options, or best practices to prevent Creo from assigning the default grey appearance at the assembly level?
Any insights or recommendations would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
