Wondering about whom to listen to for Pro/E topics

Fellow users, for some reason this person listed in the email below seems to
think that it's all right get onto the exploder list in order to get user
emails so he can sell his products. This is my first time dealing with a
sales guy stealing email address for personal gain. Anybody else had to deal
with this and if so what did you do to get it stopped.

IMO he is in violation of the TOS so he should be reported and at least
warned if not kicked off.

That's just my opinion....

Did you go to PTC/User in June and stop by the Software Factory booth?
Did someone else from your company go and maybe gave them your e-mail?

Yes, SF is in violation of the rules IF the only way they could have
gotten your e-mail address is off the exploder.

From the message, it looks as though Mr. Heinrich replied to an exploder
posting. Seems like a definite violation to me.

I'd give him a warning, then bump if behavior repeats. Some people are just
clueless.

Almost surprisingly, I haven't been bombarded with solicitations originating
from the xploder. Not even once, that I can tell.

Knock on wood.

I'm with Doug.
I've had very few solicitations and one polite request usually does the
trick.

Members -

1. Software Factory and Oliver are strong long time supporters of the PTC/USER community. This is certainly the first time in my knowledge of an issue like this involving Oliver
2. While Oliver's actions were not in the best fashion for following up possible sales opportunities, as he did not post it to the forum, he did not violate the policy. However this is not an encouraged method to develop sales contacts.
3. I agree that this is not the best method for our Industry Partner Program (IPP) members to interact with the user base -we are working on better methods for them to interact with the members. Note however that they are members of the community and the active Network board for both jobs and training show this.
We will have a discussion with Oliver on how we can possibly better work between the IPP members and user members in the future.

Thanks.

Where do I set my preferences to not give my e-mail address for spammers then ? I've never dealt with this person or company, have never signed up for anything from them, stopped at a booth of theirs, etc, etc.

How exactly did they not violate some policy ? If a non-longtime and strong supporter did the same, it would be dealt with strongly.

Not sure how someone could participate in an email based discussion
group without revealing their email address to the entire group. Not to
get into another debate on how the list should operate, but the only way
I think that could happen would be to configure the list could be
configured to send emails using the BCC field, assuming that's possible.
I think that would require a change in behavior, however, from 'reply to
the sender' by default to 'reply to the list' by default.

PTC|User's 'member's only' policy is set up to keep spammers off the
list, and has historically done a pretty good job, I think. I agree
with Hall, however, some further explanation on what's OK and not OK for
members to do in terms of solicitation of other members. I always had
assumed that any such solicitation was a no-no, but Jeff's recent
comments on this issue seem to indicate that's not quite true. So, when
is it OK to solicit others and when is it not OK? I'm sure it's on the
site somewhere, but I couldn't find it.

Found it:

http://portal.ptcuser.org/index.php?mo=cm&op=ld&fid=19

There's a button labeled 'Forum Guidelines' on the forum homepage (look left). There is nothing in there about email solicitations directly to members, only about solicitations to the forum itself.
