@MartinHanak @Werner_E did not see any of this dialogue on the Champion Board, but this is a sneak peek at what we arrived to for new ranking structure for the PTC Community.

Important things to remember.....your PTC Community MGR needs to focus on other things other than ranking so I have to set up a rank road map that will be sustainable and globally friendly.  My last community I managed has approximately the same number of levels/ranks that I am suggesting here and my top contributors are just now topping off 11 years later.  Typically, people that are engaging with PTC products are staying in their careers for more than a decade yet new users are always joining and appreciate gamification best practices.  So, these are the final ranks.  I need my most prolific users to be supportive and encouraging with these community changes.  I hope I can count on you!  I may move this thread to the public board when we are ready to reveal ranks (editing out my long dissertation of course) 🙂  But, feel free to reply to this post about the content in blue and let me know what else I should cover in this FAQ!  I appreciate your help!

1.  What are User Ranks?

User ranks are a fun gamification element of our PTC Community that incentivizes participation, rewards quality, and establishes reputation in the community. Every member of the community is assigned a rank based on their contributions and activity on the community.

2.  What are the ranks on the PTC Community?

Note:  The RANK  FONT COLOR  will vary when the ranks are actually submitted:

Diamond  (We are doing something different and cool with your former Diamond Circle---it will stay special)

Ruby

Emerald

Saphire

Topaz

Turquoise

Tanzanite

Opal

Peridot

Pearl

Moonstone

Alexandrite

Aquamarine

Amethyst

Garnet

3.  Why precious metals?  Your Community Management Team says why not? Sometimes we need to get our heads out of our analog counting, computers, devices, and computer aided drawing, and into the sand (Or, into precious jewels--in this case 🙂 Precious metals are valued globally and everyone has one (well a birthstone at least).  We know you are all hardworking and dedicated engineers and designers. We want the PTC Community to be a place where you can be a little more lighthearted and really "dig in."

4.  How do I earn a new rank?

User ranks are awarded based on combinations of various types of user activity in the community. In short, the more you participate, the higher a rank you will reach!

5.  What features are unlocked with each rank?

While we won't divulge all of the treasure chest of permissions waiting for you at each rank, I will highlight a few:

  • The private messenger feature is enabled when you reach ________level status.
  • As soon as you reach ___________status, you have the ability to at-mention fellow community members in your posts.

I will fill these in still working on the formulas for this part.

6.  What are the criteria for each rank?

It wouldn't be nearly as fun if we told you!

7.  Where does my rank display?

Your rank will display on your Community Profile page.

    Sapphire

    Aquamarine

None of these are metals, let alone precious metals. They are mostly minerals that can be used as gemstones.

Noted---replace the term precious metals with the word gemstones.  Thank you @RichardJ

I know this is probably "set in stone" already Smiley Very Happy and I don't really care much about the gamification but to me personally, nothing other than maybe the top three and then a few at the bottom mean anything to me. I don't have a clue whether moonstone is more or less than topaz or where marble falls in??!?

It would be WAY better ifthe little widget that visually displays rank is included with the name...for example Siemens NX community (which is powered by lithium). https://community.plm.automation.siemens.com/t5/forums/recentpostspage/post-type/thread/category-id/NXforDesign

Or see image below: (and they have named ranks but this image doesn't show them, like legend, contributor, phenom, etc)

I was just getting ready to write almost the exact same thing and then saw your post.  I couldn't begin to tell you the difference in value between most of these.  If we have to keep the colored rocks, can we still include the level number after them?

Also, are 'granite', 'gravel', and 'bedrock' really necessary?  Not sure I would categorize these as precious stones, maybe more foundation stones??  (Wouldn't you want the foundation built on the people with knowledge and experience instead of the newbies? Smiley Wink )

Some internal folks asked for granite, gravel...etc to be added and ....bedrock could be funny for some of us that watch Fred Flinstone as a kid!  Moderator could follow up with something fun related.  Granite, Gravel...Bedrock = the foundation of that community member's profile not the "foundation" of knowledge of the community....

Disclaimer---my favorite character is Dino and I do think that any human living in a cave in the "BCs" could very well have had a Pet Dinosaur 😉 Would have been my son's dream!  Dinosaurs were his birthday party theme turning 3 AND 10!

While I don't care much about all those ranks and silly stone names which some obviously think are funny, I made the experience that people from some countries are very focused on that kind of thing. When they take part on a lecture, they expect to get some kind of "reward" - a certificate, a badge, a pin or anything like that. It looked to me sometimes that those visible rewards are more important for them than the information they can take with them from the lecture. While most others would put away those pins, they proudly wore those pins and walked around with them. So I understand that for some people thats really important and that they seem to really need those kind of things - even at adult age and in a serious environment, while others which were grown up in different countries, were differently educated and socialized find that behavior somewhat irritating or childish.

PTC claims to be a global player but when it comes to gamificating this forum, I don't have the impression that they stress for global acceptance but it looks rather that they think very locally.

As it looks all those things are already set in stone, so all we can do is ignoring this mischief.

    Just my 2 cents
