Installing and Configuring PDM/Link

Hello,

I'm new to the list as we are looking to implement PDM/Link on a trial
basis. We own 8 heavy seats with our 8 Pro/E seats, but haven't used it
due to the perceived cost of the overhead in terms of day to day use.
In other words, it seemed like overkill in an environment like ours of
rapidly changing projects and very little ongoing data. However, when
we do larger projects with more than a couple of people working on the
same database, we realize that a data management solution would be a
benefit.

Since we have the licenses and a server with extra capacity, we want to
see if we can get it set up and give it a trial run on an upcoming
project. I've been given the task of getting it set up for that project
which is due to launch in approximately 2 weeks.

My biggest question is, is it reasonable to think that in 2 weeks I can
learn enough to install and configure PDM link properly so we have a
good test of whether it meets our needs? We should not have a complex
installation; we simply want to manage revisions and who's working on
what. What I don't want to do is get something set up, but not
properly, we then have a bad experience and dismiss PDM Link due to poor
implementation. Or worse, the implementation hampers getting the actual
work done.

Is going from zero to running in 2 weeks (without a consultant)
reasonable?

You will need everything except the business reporting section and workgroup managers, unless you also plan on other CAD files in PDMLink. You will notice that the 'latest' version of some of those files is not m060/m070, which ever you are usng.

You may have already found this document, Windchill with SQL Server Installation and Planning guide

After I sent him the PDF linked below, my IT guy asked me to ask you people
"Can we use SQL Server instead of oracle?".

Thanks,
Joe S.

Let me clarify this question. Which is better? Oracle or SQL Server for
a database?

How do I know if we are licensed for Oracle (seeing how we've been using it
for 13 years or more)?

Personally Oracle gives me the warmfuzzies because of how Intralink3.X has
always been FAST! As a user, performace is always the #1 concern.

Thanks again,
Joe S.

I have heard that 80% of new installs are going on SQLServer and it is faster than Oracle.
Whoever, if you are planning a multiple site, multiple country implementation then use Oracle.
If you must use a Un*x OS, you can only use Oracle.

PTC seems to be pushing the use of Windchill down to the standalone shops with 2-5 seats of Pro/Engineer. In these cases SQLServer is ideal.
This makes the 80% of new installs using SQLServer a valid statement, but is it reality?

Hi

I am supporting one of our clients in R10 M020 upgrade. Resolved all the
windu issues and in the process of executing upgrade manager.

One of the standalone migrators is throwing the following exception.

Would appreciate and thank any pointers for resolving the issue.

Execute Standalone Migrators Report
(ExecuteStandaloneMigrators-20120129-224245.html)

Phase Description: Execute migrators that must run before the method server
is startable.

We had a similar issue when upgrading.this is because the password of the
user configured in the JNDI adapter has special characters.

Upgrade appears to be using wrong credentials to connect to the directory server. Is it active directory?
