Hello,
I'm not really sure how to label this one, but let me try and elaborate:
Has anyone else experienced it where there is a delay/lag spike when trying to left click (select) anything in the graphics windows on Creo 11? Calling it a delay probably isn't correct, but Creo 11 (both versions 11.0.0.0 and 11.0.1.0) just seems to "miss" some of my mouse inputs.
It happens randomly when I'm either trying to add a dimension in a 3D sketch; CTRL select edges or surfaces of a 3D model; and also when trying to move balloons in drawings? Essentially left click/selecting anything on a daily basis will just randomly not respond and I have to click again.
I always thought it was just me miss clicking but I'm noticing it more and more, and its not limited to a specific model.
I have compared it to Creo 10 and it seems to be primarily in 11.
I have tried:
- Default PTC config
- Different mouse
- Multiple models
Hi,
described behavior can be cause by graphic card drivers. You can do standard test:
If the problem disappears then it is related to graphic card drivers.
Thank you for the quick response.
I tested it but the graphics win32_gdi config option makes the models slow in general.
Panning and zooming causes stuttering (lowered frames, almost like a stop-motion picture).
If I select a component from the feature tree, I can see it highlighting every surface until finally having the entire component selected.
Very difficult to gauge the selection "performance" when everything is slowed down and stuttering.
But if the problem went away except performance issues it is pointing at a driver problem as @MartinHanak stated. That was not a long term fix, but just a diagnostics tool.
Does it only occur on large models? I sometimes have issues with selection on large models/drawing.
If not, try the graphics test option on a smaller model.
Another selection issue sometimes occurs when your graphics are scale via windows.
Another potential solution or problem is config.pro option pick_aperature_radius is set small.
I am having the exact same issue. Recently upgraded to Creo 11, and this issue popped up. Didn't have any issues with Creo 10. If anyone has a solution that would be great!
Same here as well. We switched from Creo 4 to Creo 11 last month, it's one of the first things we noticed when using Creo 11.
We opened a case and the support told us it was probably a graphics driver issue. We updated our drivers but it didn't change anything so we continue with this issue hoping for a fix one day.
I am having the same issue after upgrading to 11. This version is insanely slow and buggy. selecting edges / surfaces in models and dimensions / balloons in drawings takes sometimes 5 or 6 clicks. Typing is very slow and lags behind (and I am a slow typer). Just selecting the annotation tab in a model causes my computer to not respond for 10 or so seconds.... its not my computer... its a powerhouse work station recommended by PTC.. so is the video card.... Its taking me 2x longer to do the same work in 11 that it took me in 10...
Have you tried updating the graphic card driver? Or, if you are using a supported system, you could also look up the supported driver for your system.
Just installed the newest version from the NVIDIA website... seems to help with the selection issue and the typing lag...although rotate and zoom is a little jerky... All in all so far its better. The funny part is that Windows said I had the latest driver installed.... apparently not.... windows had no clue it was several revisions behind...
I never let Windows update my video drivers because they have moved me to unapproved drivers that have had issues.
It is only done after consulting what the latest approved drivers that are listed with PTC.
If you still can't stand it, you can try installing different versions of the driver. On occassion, the latest isn't the best for a specific program like Creo.
Or, you can check PTC support for specific driver certified, for example https://support.ptc.com/WCMS/files/176373/en/Dell_11.html
Edit:
I am having similar issues, although I am not on Creo 11, just Creo 9.
But my issues also occur in Word, Excel and Outlook, so I am wondering if it is a Windows thing.
Yea, that sounds like a windows thing. I’ve been using Creo for about 16 years now....To be honest Creo 5, 7 and 9 were the most stable.
I did notice that certain windows updates would mess with Creo... then the issues would go away after the next update. But never this slow or buggy.
Some things to help overall performance would be to empty your windows prefetch and temp directories...
As you say, I'm wondering if it's a windows thing. Here, we have 3 computer running Creo 11, they all have the same issue and they're running windows 10. 2 computers are not Creo certified and the third is, it makes no difference.
And you all, are you running windows 10 or 11 ?
Just adding my voice to the chorus. I started my own thread about this issue before another user alerted me to the existence of this one.
Still no resolution.
I migrated from Creo 8 to 11. I have this issue as well in Creo 11. While in assembly and part mode it is not so apparent, drawings mode is catastrophic! It will not select edges upon being clicked, i need to click every edge 2-3 times! To the point, I cannot even make drawings anymore.
And of course this only after i designed the whole tool in Creo11, so i cannot go back to Creo8. Now i have around 40 drawings to make for machine shop!
Hi All,
For those experiencing this issue, is scrolling in the configuration editor also slow/choppy/delayed?
Yes it is. I have just compared with Creo 4 and it 4 feels smooth compared to Creo 11.
Yes.
Has anyone figured out what is causing this? Its super annoying when detailing. Taking me about 1/3 longer now...as I keep having to re-select edges because they don't get picked,
This has only happened when we switched to Creo 11 (we were on Creo 7..with no issues)

Earlier today I rolled back my graphics driver to the one that PTC officially supports - or at least as close as I could get since NVIDIA no longer seem to offer the exact right version. So far this seems to be working, but I want to put several more hours or days into Creo before I consider the issue to be actually solved. Afterall, it has been an intermittent (but frequent) issue for me to begin with.
I did this as well soon after switching to V11... it did not make a difference. Updating to 11.0.4.0 helped a little, but not much. PCT really screwed the pooch on this one. Everything lags hard on V11. Wish there was a way to go back to V9 and still use my files. V9 seemed to be the most stable.
Ok, I may have found something that is causing this issue for so many of us,
I found that if i turn off this "enable preselection highlighting" in the options. (under file/options/selection). I don't have the selection issues when detailing a drawing. Its fast and snappy like previous versions of Creo when adding dimensions,
I don't have to click 3 times to get an edge selected when adding a dimensioning to a drawing.
HOWEVER......It does however suck not having the edge pre highlighted though.
It also REALLY sucks when in the 3d model not having it highlight.
So i don't think this is viable option to always keep the pre highlighting turned off.
But I DO think this is something PTC should be looking at as it maybe the culprit of the selection issues in Creo 11.
Unfortunately preselection highlighting is a key part of how the Creo UI works. It may help as a workaround in some cases, but I would not say that it is the "cause". That said, I do have a mapkey (F1) to toggle preselection highlighting for cases when it helps to disable it momentarily.
The root cause of this delayed selection, as others have suggested above, is that compatibility with graphics hardware and/or drivers on "older" machines may not be supported by newer versions of Creo as they come out. Every time you deviate from the line of graphics hardware that is fully tested and certifiably supported by PTC for that particular version you run the risk of experiencing these types of graphics glitches. The delayed clicking on V11 (which doesn't happen on V10) appears to be an example of that. I've run into this kind of thing quite often over the years. Even variants of graphics adapters that are almost identical to others which seem to work perfectly can have some weird glitches. Some graphics issues are barely noticeable, some are nuisances, and some are show stoppers, but invariably these performance issues come back to the graphics hardware or driver not actually being supported. The best bet for the user is to ensure that the hardware platform and graphics adapter has been fully tested and is certifiably supported by PTC.
I believe the only reason they say its not supported is because they (PTC) haven't actually tested this particular combination of PC and graphics card. The graphics card I have (Nvidia A4000) is most def tested on a whole bunch of computers on that list. Its just not tested on a G8 HP laptop. For them to tell me to downgrade to an A2000 card is Ludacris. They use the same driver!!!
We have newer computers here that ARE on there approved list that this also happens on. But because PTC cant reproduce it on there end...im stuck with software that doesn't work correctly.
Seeing that turning off this highlight function made my selection issues go away.. (though it introduces other issues) gave me hope that maybe PTC can look deeper into this..as there must be something that changed behind the scenes to make this a problem in Creo 11..
We have users here that are not power-users, and they never even noticed this was a problem until I showed them, (in my quest to try and figure out what is causing this..as they said there computer didn't do this. (It does) ..they just didn't notice..as they are not using Creo11 , 10 hours a day x 5 or 6 days a week like a lot of us here)
But most Creo11 Users here have notice this.
It honestly takes me 1/3 longer now to detail a drawing because of this issue. Also we are starting to colorcode parts and this selection issue shows up here too.
I heard there was some other graphic issue fix in Creo11.0.5.0..so finger crossed it inadvertently fixes this issue as well, (But I'm not holding my breath)

It's definitely frustrating, whatever the cause. I frequently have to "slow down" and click rather deliberately sometimes after I "miss".
One thing that might be somewhat related to a root cause/solution - it seems that part of the problem is that if you hover over an entity when "preselection highlighting" is on, and you have the entity momentarily highlighted in order for Creo to accept selection, it's very easy to very slightly hover past the entity just before clicking. This deactivates preselection and you end up unsuccessfully trying to click an entity that is no longer preselected. It all happens in milliseconds but enough to negate a selection. For example, I try to click a centerline and two successive points in a sketch, and I "miss" the first or second click after the centerline. So to do it again, but I have to be more deliberate and slow down to get it right, which is annoying. It seems like this "click activation zone" was a bit more forgiving in the past - I was working on Wildfire with old hardware just a few years ago and never ever had this problem with fast, successive mouse clicks. Also it was a bit better in Creo 10 as others have pointed out. Perhaps there is something that can be tweaked in the program, such as leaving an entity preselected for an extra few milliseconds or increasing the "click radius". Of course there is also a graphic element to it, as the hardware must be able to achieve quick highlighting to give the user that window to select. If there is any highlight lag, the preselection will fail.
Hi, Has anyone tested Creo 12 regarding this issue ? Is it better ?
Just tested Creo 12 for this issue. Selecting sketch lines/ references within sketch mode seams slightly better, other than that Creo 12 seems slow, choppy, dialogue boxes are choppy, display within dialogue boxes flickers. I don't want to hear its a graphics card/ hardware issue as every other build of Creo up until Creo 11 was fine.
