Hello,My department iscurrently using Epic Editor 5.3 M030to edit XML documents, then using Adobe Distiller 6.0 to produce PDF files. We currently have a DTD and XSL that aid in the process. My question is what would it take to take our current XML documents and output them to the .epub format? Is this even possible? Thanks,Jack

I'm trying to write an ACL script in 5.2 that will take a user selectedrange of elements. In this case a series of step1 elements, take thatselection, delete and turn it into a seqlist with items. I can run thefollowing sample code at the command line and I get what I'm expecting:copy_mark buf1;delete_mark buf1;response(oid_name(oid_first(buffer_doc(buf1))));response(oid_content(oid_first(buffer_doc(buf1))));paste buf1;BUT when I put this in a file, create a funtion and assign it to the F12key, the response messages show no content, the delete doesn't work butthe paste does. just an observationI don't normally use the website to access adepters but I had to today. Trying to get to this forum is not the most intuitive interface. you have to go to the forums tab and then Adepters doesn't show up on that page you have to expand the list and then it is not listed as Arbortext or Editor (it isn't even there alphabetically) but it is listed as Adepters and it is like one or 2 from the bottom of the list.A newbie looking for help would have to know this exists and what the group is even called...dan

Hello,The subject of my message is little different but my question is same as it was raised earlier in the below link in 2008.http://portal.ptcuser.org/p/fo/st/topic=21&post=70228#p70228Currently we use ArborText for XML editing but our business requires a web-based editor that can talk to our CMS so people outside of our regular editors can make changes to the content using a web browser. We are so accustomed to ArborText and because of this requirement we are pushed to see if any other editor in the market is capable of addressing this requirment. Can you guide if Arbortext is available/customizable for a web-based editor? If so is there a demo or sample website that I can take look.ThanksKarthik

Hi all,In my running heading I have set a text variable that has a subparttitle occurring at the bottom of the page using the BO modifier. In a few cases the subpart title skips to the next page, but the text variable seems to be already set to that, so thatthewrong subpart titletext shows up in the running header.Has anybody seen this and come up with a solution?Thanks,Ellen

Hello,I have the below ACL code:alias copyfit1 { set changetracking=offinsert_pi 'xpp copyfittext1';set changetracking=on}map F1 copyfit1As you can see that a PI is inserted. Our requirement is to turn the change tracking off when this PI is inserted. In the above code I could able to achieve this. But here is my issue - I do not want change tracking to be turned on when the PI is inserted for a docuemnt where we do not need change tracking at all i.e., if the document does not to be tracked whereas this PI should be inserted I do not want change tracking to be turned on after inserting the PI. For this can I check the status of change tracking in a document and have the code act according to the status of change tracking in the document.Thanks in advance.Karthik

Hi, Can someone point me in the direction of the preference setting to save your XML files from Editor clean, i.e. without CF+LF+tabs so its just the raw XML. It is easy in XMLSpy, but I cant see what i'm looking for in prefs/advanced. Any pointers how apreciated. Thanks!

Adepters:We have a Styler license and with that I can select from the File menu, Compose -> PDF File, fill in the name of the PDF file to create, the stylesheet to use, and have Arbortext Editor with Styler generate a PDF directly on my local machine. However, for the life of me I can't find any documentation of what the epic.exe command line would look like if I wanted to run it in a batch script. Anyone know what it would be or where I can find the information? Or, maybe it's not supported?Thanks,Dave HintzSiemens

Can you run spell check from the command line on a directory of xml files?We, uh, well...the guy next to me just did a search and replace to take out all line breaks...but forgot to put a space in. XML Tidy has done a fabulous job of fixing all 300 files BUT now we have a few sentences per file that have been combined where a sentence was broken, hence "when the temperatureis reached..." and such.This is gonna be a pain, wasn't backed up lately, not sure what I'll do...but would be a start if I could get editor to parse each and either tell me which had spelling errors - and preferably open those.Luckily this is the procedures chapters so most of the sentences are very short.John T. Hi,This is an Epic 4.3 Editor Guru Meditation question:I use the tag templates quite a bit and I am in the habit of editingthem, and their filenames manually with a text editor. Since they arelimited to 8.3 format names I have to get creative to work outrecognizable names and occasionally re-order them. The problem is thatif the editor is open, it will not re-fresh the tag template list evenif you open and close tag templates from the Tools menu. Adding a newtag from within Epic is not a problem. What I'd like to know is if thereis a command line function that allows you to refresh/reload thetemplates from scratch. So far, the only thing I've been able to do isclose my editor session and re-open it to refresh the tag template list.This sort of re-load functionality would also be useful to re-load mydocument's catalog and list of graphic entities since I'm also in thehabit of editing those manually. I'm wondering if there are any otherre-load functions besides the View>Reload Graphic

I need to be able to post the effectivity information in the footer for only those pages containing the effectivity element.All works ok but unable to turn it off for subsequent pages containing no effectivity.effectivity only occurs within sheet within graphic element.Any suggestions out there ?Regards,Andy

Hi, This is an appeal to those in this forum who have worked with Epic Editor and S1000D (schemaor DTDs). I've been tasked to do an eval of Epic Editor (rather quickly) but first I have to learn how to use it. We are about to collaborate with a client to update their aviation manuals. They use Arbortext Epic Editor (version unk) and we use Framemaker 7.2. We are in two minds: there is some thought that we should get Epic while there is other thought that we stick with Framemaker, as long as we can get their DTDs. I've gone through the tutorial and looked at the templates that come packaged with Epic. I've tried to plunge straight in and import/use an S1000D DTD but I can't find/don't understand how Epic does it (beside the fact that when I clicked on Import in the menu, I was told I didn't have the licence). I know how to do this in Frame but I want to give Epic a chance. Could someone please advise me or point me in the right direction to where I can get the info. Help appreciated. Ch

Finally traced down my seemingly intermittent disappearing graphic issue.Set pegraphicpi=on solves MOST of my problems in lost graphics when composing on the PE.What I've learned is that it does not set a pi if a graphic is not, well, called a graphic.Is there any place I can add the other Army 40051 tags to get graphic pi's to be sent to the PE? We have icons, symbols, all sorts of graphics that simply are not called <graphic>. To make things a bit worse, the Army calls the graphic source "boardno" - I guess that makes it simpler because all graphics have that terminology with this DTD, but it is not the same terminology as Arbortext.This is maddening. If I put all the graphics on the server, I can't reference them with the server's name (\\myserver\graphics) but have to use a drive letter (in this case J:). But to the server, J: isn't really real and gets ignored because the server is run from the main admin account (or something like that). Without the PI, just saying "fire.b

Has anyone sucessfully created a template for 11x17 foldouts using XSL FO?Through the use of an attribute I'm able to switch between different pagemasters and get the sizing that I want however when it switches back to the 8.5x11 it resets page number back to one. I know that it is because I have my initial page number set to 1 on my chapter template so when it goes back to that page set it resets it to 1. Is there a way to make the initial page number attribute conditional or is there a better way to switch page sizes within a section? Our company doesn't have the funding for support hence the posting here:) My user had a computer go bad so we switched over to a new system and sent the new host ID in for a new license file. I load the IsoDraw program which asked for the new license file. I directed the program to the file and now when I run the program I get the following error "License request failed for feature Iso Draw" Any help here greatly be appreciated!
