Assemble parts

Hi, I am new user of Pro/E. Currently using Pro/E 4.0. I want to assemble four plates. I know two methods of assembly. 1)Create all parts in advance and assemble them in assembly mode. 2)Create parts in assembly mode. Question is which one is better approach and Secondly I want to update my whole assembly as I change dimension of first part. Is it possible..

Generally both methods gives good flexibility as per your requirements. When dealing with more complicated modelling first method is widely used.

There are two methods of modelling

1.Bottom Up Design

2.Top Down Design

But If you want to modify your assembly by changing your first part

then you should go for TOP Down Design

In this you can take the reference of other parts in place of dimensions.

This will result in change the dimensions of other parts when you change the dimensions of first part

Same thing can also be done in Bottom up design but you have to use relations

to automatically update the dimensions of other parts when you change the first part.

I have gone through the two approaches u hv suggested. But I am unable to find any image attached with ur reply. Kindly suggest how to get it.

Moreover suggest any good documents or tutorials for beginner that can help me.

Most new users are better off using bottom up approach simply because they will make a mess out of assembly if trying to change it and it has been made in top down. After some time they will transition to top down when they get the hang of making complex assemblies without circular references or referencing to entities that are bound to change at some point.

Best practice is of course top down but if you are creating subassemblies or parts that are to be repeated thru assembly then its best to create them outside of main assembly so you don’t have problems like datum’s being miles away from solid when you open part/subassembly. Problems with copying part in assembly can occur and you can’t properly position it using datum’s cuz they are off the map (because first part that you are copying has his datum planes God knows where).

This advice applies especially to WF4 users like you because of WF4s error solver which makes user lose huge amounts of time fixing assembly that went "kaboom!"

Switch to WF5 or Creo and save your nerves.
