Thicker line weight for centerlines

I noticed that the lineweight for centerlines is really thin. Whats the
procedure to increase that thickness? I got the setting to use pen tables
with PDF creation and I got a pen table. Maybe its just one of those pens
that needs to be a bit thicker?

Traditional drafting standards would dictate that your centerlines would
be the thinnest lines on the sheet, with hidden lines next, object lines
after that and section lines as the thickest. So, what you're getting
is proper, center lines should be very thin.



That said, most pen table files that I have seen are commented, try
opening it in notepad or another text editor. Pen 2 controls center
lines among other things. I've attached our plotter table file for your
reference, which we use for PDFs too.



I remember back in the day of pencil on velum, I had 4 mechanical
pencils for the 4 line weights I needed to make - 0.3mm, 0.5mm, 0.7mm
and 0.9mm. Sometimes I miss those days. Not often, but sometimes. 😄

According to my copy of Machinery's Handbook 25th edition, Line weight
and lettering is controlled by ANSI Y14.2M-1979



Line weights are as follows:



Approximate width (not reason for drawing rejection)

Thick lines .7mm

Thin Lines .35mm



Outlines, section lines, cutting/viewing planes, break lines, and chain
lines are thick.

All others are thin.

This is what really helped:
color 0.0 0.0 0.0

in

pen 2 thickness 0.005 in; color 0.0 0.0 0.0

because when you print to gray scale, the single control for dimensions/text
and centerlines has an automatic differentiation between the three that
cannot be altered.

So the text and dimensions are always darker than the centerlines for gray
scale or thicker in the case of black and white. Setting the color to black,
makes the centerline more visible than when its printed as gray (as is by
default when not using the pnt file.)
