Is a Intralink 3.4 fileserver clone really required for test migration to 9.x?
I am going through the PTC documentation and PTC University course on migrating from Intralink 3.4 to 9.1.
PTC recommends cloning the 3.4 dataserver for testing the migration, which makes a lot of sense.
However, PTC also recommends cloning the 3.4 fileserver as well, but it is not clear as to why this is beneficial.
I would like or avoid duplicating hundreds of megabytes of vaults.
My cloned dataserver (SUN UNIX) has inadequate space for the vaulted files.
And I am not in the position to purchase additional storage that will be used only for the migration.
I cannot simply buy a cheap terabyte drive as I would with a PC.
I expected that the migration tool would access the 3.4 fileserver in a read-only mode.
Or does the migration tool need to modify vault files/folders on the 3.4 fileserver?
I was hoping to simply make the vaults read-only in the cloned 3.4 dataserver and migrate from there.
I might go with the Pre-Copy option to bring the 3.4 vault files over to the 9.1 server.
Would that make a difference?
