Analysis Features Cause Performance Issues When Graphing Mechanism Features

Hi everyone,

I am running a kinematic/position study in Creo Mechanism and trying to graph specific measures. However, several models in the assembly contain Mass Property analysis features.

This is causing severe performance lags. Mechanism is regenerating every single one of these models at every frame of the analysis to recalculate mass and surface area, even though these values are static and won't change during the run.

In the Analysis feature settings, the available Regenerate options are:

  • Always

  • Read Only

  • Only Design Study

Ideally, I want "Always, except during a Mechanism analysis."

Has anyone else run into this performance bottleneck? What is the best workaround to temporarily bypass or freeze these mass property calculations while running and graphing a Mechanism study?

Thanks in advance!

AFAIK there is no manual control setting of when mass prop analyses are evaluated, this is managed by Creo internally.

In mechanism mode (MDO) are you certain that you are performing a kinematic study?

  • Kinematic: Solves for position, velocity, and acceleration based on connections and motors. Mass properties are not used.

If you verify that you are strictly solving kinematics for this then try deleting the mass prop analysis features and see what happens. You could also assign the mass properties to the models (rather than calculate them) to avoid recalculation, but you need to be careful with this if you are doing dynamic analysis in MDO.

100% positive that it is kinematic.  I was confused why Creo would force a regen on the analysis feature of a model.

Try this and report back if it works..

Exclude from Regeneration: If specific mass property analysis features are causing delays, you can exclude them in the Regeneration Manager by unchecking them before initiating the MDO run, provided the values are already current.
1.To initiate custom regeneration, click    Regenerate; Regeneration Manager. The Regeneration Manager dialog box opens. The Regeneration List shows the components and features in the assembly that need regeneration.

2.To set preferences for regeneration click Preferences.
° To create a backup model before regeneration click Create Backup Models
° Set a Mass Properties Handling option:
•    Automatic Update—Updates mass properties automatically on regeneration.
•    Report Outdateness—Repoit outdated mass properties
•    By Request—Prompts to update mass properties on regeneration.
•    Check Upon Save—Prompt when saving if there are no mass properties calculated.
3.    To search for a specific component or feature, type the name in the search box and press ENTER. The item highlights in the list.
4.    By default, all components and features that need regeneration are selected. Clear the component check box to prevent regeneration.
