Annotating a drawing, catching non visible lines

I have some issues when putting a dimension on a drawing.
I work in large assemblies. When i want to select my line i have to zoom in a lot, or cycle the selection (right click) 2-4 times to get the right line. For some reason it often goes to lines on geometry that is not visible/behind on the view.

This happens quite often.
Is there a way to not select non visible lines when placing a dimension?
Selection filter on dimension is set to all (there is only this one).

Bonus question: why is it so hard to pick the middle of a pipe (without centerline) when placing dimension? The line on the end of the pipe is usually split in two non centered lines. maybe like circles are split in a interesting way :)
