Gurus,

Was wondering if anyone has come up with a solution to this?

Flexible components.
Introduced somewhere in the 2001 or Wildfire 1 timeframe.

Are flexible components only accessible using the flex 3C license that cost
an arm and a leg? Ah soo tempting to find out... I think so. I think that
is why we never used it.

Flexibility is available with the base license (foundation).

Here's my 2 cents....

If you're modeling the gasket at different lengths, you have a family
table for all of these gaskets?

Use or create a parameter for the part number of this gasket to be used
in the BOM and add to the family table.

I have had this type of parameter update automatically by parsing the
length of the gasket value onto a parameter that includes the generic
part number as well.

The length of the gasket can be found by creating a saved measurement of
the curve length for the 'spine' that the gasket is swept along.

It may report the length in inches, so you have to do more programming
kung-fu to get the value in decimal feet and then convert this to a text
string that can be appended to text string that includes the generic
part number.

Flexibility is in Foundation. Right click on an assembly component and pick "Make Flexible".
