How can I make inactive parts transparent but keep there assigned color?

Thanks @tbraxton for your views,

This helps when transparent display style is desired for a given component, This won't help unfortunately however for the way how transparency will be displayed for inactive components (after having activated a given component in assembly mode).

Hello @SM_9610052

There is unfortunately no way to keep the user defined color (with a tranparency) for inactive components. For the official information, refer to:

Once above understood, regarding dim_inactive_components:

  • Value never is easy to understand, and means: DO NOT apply transparency for inactive components. Never.
  • Values shaded_only* and always:
    • produce most of the time the same outcome, except if you have Styles configuration in View Manager (not often used by customers - not so many cases on this even in PTC TS)
    • and even in the scope of Style definition, observe in Help Center documentation that always default color/appearence is applied to inactive components

This expectation is therefore eligible for a new idea, but not for a SPR (because its a current limitation officially documented). Then, what follows is only my views: if a new idea will be reported in this direction, I "think" this could be technically possible in the scope of simple colors applied to components, but probably much harder (and probably even technically not possible) when a texture (coming from a jpg file for instance) is configured instead. Again, just my views here. So feel free to open a new idea to bring this request to the attention of our Product Managers.

Regards,

Serge

Select the component and then set the component display to transparent in the view tab.
