copy paste curve

wf4

i have a curve in one part, and want to copy it (as a dependent) into another part. The 2 parts are assembled together. How does one go about copy and pasting a curve? Thanks.

Hi DL
I have reservations about copying a curve from one part to another but
putting that to one side;

In WF you need to select the geometry to select the curve (I use the
geometry filter to do this though I think there are RMB ways to do it).
With that filter on when you select the curve you are getting the curve
entity rather than the feature so when you copy anywhere it copies it to
make a new curve.

You can use an external copy geometry feature for this purpose.

1. Activate the part you want to copy the curve into.

2. Select the curve from the other part (this will select the feature)

3. Select the curve a second time. This will select the geometry and turn the curve "bold".

4. Ctrl + C (or Edit, Copy)

5. Ctrl + V (or Edit, Paste)

6. Select the check mark to complete the copy feature.

You could also use external copy geometry (Insert, Shared Data, Copy Geometry), or Project. All three solutions will give you a parametric copy of the original curve in this second part.

Another quick method would be to create a curve in the second part while in the
assembly and then use edges of the first part to create the new curve. You will
need to have your config set to allow using references from other parts to do
this.

Personally I would not recommend this as I use Publish Geometry and Master
modeling techiques/methods to share common geometry and references.

and out of curiosity, is there a way to have the pasted curve be 'independent' of the original curve?
