Creo 10.0.1.0 : Grouping features in the model tree using query

Hi

I am on Creo 10.0.1.0

While features such as Holes, Rounds, Chamfers etc can be grouped using query in Layers, wondering if the same can be done in the “Design Tree”.

Filtering the design tree and dragging and dropping the features into the custom group is a manual process which we would like to avoid. The reason being, every time a new feature such as a round is added, it would not become a part of the custom group, without a manual intervention.

Help documentation is silent on this aspect.

I am aware that this can be done through layers.

Perhaps you could add detail or images to better show what you are asking about and the current steps you are using.  If you were to create an Idea for this, images and steps would also help to strengthen the post.

I believe it is possible with the existing functionality to realize what you are asking for. I have tested it in Creo 10 by placing all rounds in a model into a custom group in the design tree. This can be implemented by leveraging layer rules (rule to place all rounds on a layer) and the search tool to collect all rounds in the model by selecting features in the layer (this will select all features of the layer in the model tree) and then drag the selected features into an existing custom group in the design tree. See the snapshot of such an implementation in the design tree below. You can build custom queries to be used with the search tool that can be used on demand to add items to custom groups in this context.
