Creo 2 with 12GB RAM, 64 bit Win 7 Enterprise

Hello Everyone,

I've recently had a RAM upgrade from 6GB to 12GB on Windows 7 Enterprise, and I'm not seeing a difference in Creo's performance. I've made the pagefile size 36GB, as I had read somewhere that it should be 3X the RAM size. I'm never seeing the RAM usage go much over 4GB. I would think the models I'm working on would definitely take advantage, but I'm not seeing it.

Any ideas?

Because your prior RAM usage did not exceed 4GB, the upgrade from 6GB to 12GB did nothing for you.
Pro/E won't use more RAM just because more exists.
That might be true fro some applications, but not Pro/E.


As to the pagefile size:My general rule is that it should be zero to 1X of RAM (on 64-bit systems with more than 4GB RAM).
If you find yourself needing more, you really should get more RAM first.
In your case, you could disable paging altogether since you are nowhere near using 12GB.

You can disable paging but ProE/Creo will still page once maximum processor speed is obtained. Gerry is correct saying the extra RAM is worthless, the speed of ProE/Creo is dependent on the processor NOT the RAM! We, too have travelled that road.

Thanks both of you for the input. I thought I'd see less lag time in certain functions, but I guess that's not going to be the case.

The only time you would see some performance increase was if you had been using more than 6GB of memory with your assembly loaded. If you aren't maxing out memory and still feel you need more performance , you have 2 choices depending on what the bottleneck is.
If you have delays as you build complex features, then a faster processor may help. A faster graphics card with more memory may also help.
If the delays are seen when doing rendering, then a faster graphics will help.

Knowing where the delay is coming from will help guide you in where to throw resources to improve performance.

If you do any Mechanica you can realise a significant speed improvement
- just make sure you set the Mechanica RAM allocation to around half the
installed memory (so 6144 in your case), up to the (WF) limit of 8 GB
(8192).
