Question

Execute Mapkey vs typed into search bar

Most times when typing a mapkey it will just execute as expected about 5% of the time (or less) it shows up in the search bar and the communication box tells me that this group of characters is a mapkey (duh….).

Am I accidentally pressing something that brings me into the search bar from the keyboard instead of just executing the mapkey?

Mildly annoyed.

Considering the intent of how the UI should work in this context. The command search tool must be on and have the focus for input from the keyboard. Is your environment customized such that the command search is turned on by default when launching Creo? If so, then I would suspect that some UI action is shifting the focus to the command line input. If it is not on when this is happening, then that would be more complicated as the command search tool is getting turned on and activated unknowingly.

As a diagnostic exercise you could change the command search settings to not look for mapkeys and monitor to see if the behavior is changed over a period of time.

How do you get to this window?

I don’t remember ever seeing this. Do you use it often? Do you have a mapkey that activates the search functionaility?

It is random and not one specific mapkey.

Is there a “hotkey” preprogrammed into Creo that activates the search bar. At least I don’t see one:

I just thought of one other thing that might cause this to occur. If the mapkeys that are causing this conflict with any of OOB hotkeys or other in session mapkeys that might actually turn on the command search and display the list of commands if there are potential conflicts with the mnemonic being entered. This is based on my vague memories of dealing with some bugs in the default hotkeys in the past, but I am not certain.

Have you been able to determine any specific mapkeys that cause the issue?

You may be accidentally pressing Ctrl instead of Alt or Alt+Q instead of Alt+W for example.

Most of my mapkeys are a repetitive series of left handed key strokes. e.g. gfff (print pdf), zxcv (toggle axis and planes on/off), `asm (launch start assembly) ….

So, you are probably not pressing F10 > F > H > S > 1. 😉
