Help Selecting Multiple references datum plane/ rotational offset datum plane

Hi,

 

I am trying to select multiple references (2 a surface and an edge of a part) when creating a datum plane. For some reason holding CTRL while selecting them doesn't work. I can select one or the either and it turns green but when I hold ctrl the surface turns orange for a sec but doesn't select. Could this be because I am using VMware Fusion on my Mac laptop. Is there a work around that I can do? I need to have two references to add a rotational offset for this plane. please help.

A plane can only be defined with the types of entities that unambiguously can be used to define a plane. For example a linear entity like an axis or a truly linear edge of an object and a point, or another plane or planar surface. Or three points or vertices. Or a circular edge. Etcetera.

If the entities you are trying to select are not valid for the definition of a plane, Creo won't let you select them. What's wrong with the entities you are trying to use? There is no way for me to know. Is the "surface" you are trying to use planar? Is the edge a line? If the surface and edge are planar and linear respectively, is the line perpendicular to the surface? If so, that's also invalid.

You're going to have to look at the entities you are trying to use and verify they are valid. If not you'll probably have to resort to some other means of defining the plane you need.

My part is a turning tool. It is a rectangular in shape and has a tip cut out. The edges I am talking about are lines and the surface I need is just a flat planar surface. I am trying to make a datum plane that is offset by a certain angle. I can only see the translational offset that moves the plane back and forth in one direction. Also I tried creating 3 points and making a datum plane off of those but I can't even select these points. Also I am using a Mac with VMware Fusion.

Anecdotally, I am aware of a few users who have tried to run Creo on a MAC using emulators or VMs. None of them were able to use Creo in such an environment.  If you want help with Creo functionality then adding some detail is in order. Your problem statement is lacking, post the model (or at least pictures with details) with an explanation of what you are attempting along with information on Creo version etc.
