How to extrude a sketch on a curved surface

Hi all.

Can someone please help me with this please?

I have a part in my assembly that i want to add grease grooves to the bore 6mm wide x 3mm deep.

I’ve tried sketching on vertical plane and then projecting the sketch onto the bore surface - which works, but then i cant extrude that projected sketch.

I’m using Creo 11.

Copy the surface. Wrap a sketch of one groove onto the surface. Trim the surface with the sketch. Thicken the surface, removing material. Geometry pattern the feature.

Thanks for this but I can’t open the file...saying cannot be retrieved

I’m not sure what version of creo ​@kdirth is using but it could be newer or if you are using an educational version of creo, files will NOT  be openable at all in the commercial version of creo. Usually when you try to open either, creo wil give an error stating what the problem is in the message log.

There are multiple posts about similar grooves with the community if you search. but ​@tbraxton video will really get you there too.

Here is an example of how to use a sweep to create a groove in a bore. Probably more complex geometry than what you need but the technique should still be valid. If this is not applicable to your design, then post some pictures of what is needed.

If the bore is cylindrical and the groove has a constant cross section, you can use a revolved cut to create the groove in the bore in the most simple geometric realization. The swept cut shown in the video provides much more flexibility for more complex geometry.
