How to keep orientation fixed to a point or coordinate?

Is it possible to have an orientation fixed on a point in a model, keeping the same zoom and direction when a length changes. At the moment I am having troubles with this, and when I change the length of a model, the orientation stays at the same place and doesn't move with the model.
