Question

How to relate a location of datum point on an edge according to local dihedral angle

I want to locate datum points on an edge between two parts. The location of these datum points should be based on a particular dihedral angle.

For example, Point 1 should be placed where the dihedral angle is 30 degrees on the edge. And point 2 should be placed where the dihedral angle is 45 degrees etc. Also, these points should then adjust automatically when the part geometry is modified resulting in a change in dihedral angles.

Please let me know how can I model this in creo parametric 6.

Thanks.

Hi,

Can you send a screenshot of your part or attach the file?

From your written description it would seem that you would need to use the Behavioral Modeling Extension (BMX) functionality to automate this. First you would create measurement features quantifying the angles of interest. You would then need to create an optimization study and define the goal to be your dihedral angles target values while allowing the position of the point to vary along the curve. The optimization study would be replicated for each measurement desired of the angle at a point along the curve.
