Is there any way to keep pattern references after bending?

I'm creating a very simple part, a strip of metal with holes in it. I started with a flat part, added the 1st hole, then pattern. When bending, the holes move with the part, but when I want to reference other parts to these holes in an assembly that's not possible.

 

I've tried bending first and doing the pattern with a curve pattern. In this case the parts show in position but the pattern has an error. I'm sure it's because the two faces of the bend become different. Tried adding points and same issue.

 

I had to repeat holes and chamfers twice and will have to do the same with the parts attached to this. Is there any way to keep the references after bending or is something that Creo doesn't have?

This is a brute force method to control the references used in the pattern. There may be a more elegant solution that is equivalent. Creo 9 models posted below for reference. Note that when the assembly is regenerated that the assembled components (cylinders) move with the holes in the bent part as requested,

    OK, I see, you used the coordinate system. That looks like a great idea, and it works very nicely, thank you!

     

    I have to get more familiar with them cause I never use them :S
