Question

Laser cutting spline lines

I am using Creo Parametric - Release 3.0 (connected) 3.0 M040

When we create sheet metal parts to be cut on our laser, many have complex splines, rather than smooth arcs. Is there a way to have Creo export DXFs from the drawing with best fit curves and arcs rather than splines and polylines?

Try setting this config option to yes. This should export the splines as arcs using a DXF output.

intf2d_out_splines_to_arcs

This will not necessarily fix everything as it applies only to splines that represent arcs.

Description: Yes - splines geometrically representing arcs will be exported as arcs. No - such splines will be exported as splines.

If this does not address the issue you will probably have to use a 3rd party application to convert the splines to arcs in the DXF exports.

Seems to be a problem that has been asked about before:

Export DWG Drawing with Converted Splines to Arcs

Is it possible to output a spline as lines and arcs when export drawing to DXF in Creo Parametric

Doesn't seem to be an option. The options available when doing a DXF export are not helpful for this situation. You can specify splines be saved as polylines, but not approximate lines and arcs.

I was hoping that there was some development since that previous discussion (2012).

I'm going to try "intf2d_out_splines_to_arcs"

I had checked the config options for DXF but not the general intf2d_out options. Hopefully that will help, but I have my doubts.
