Unless I'm mistaken, I thought you could measure the circumference of a diametrical feature with the Measure Tool?

Hi,

you need circular edge to be able to measure circumference (perimeter). Therefore you have to add something into your model temporarily - eq. X-section, sketched curve, ...

The nature of your "diametrical feature" matters in this context.

Use the perimeter measure. There is a caveat (below) when using this for a cylindrical face. If the ends of the cylinder are not identical then this is not useful as you are not able to simply divide the result by 2 to get the desired measure.

If you attempt to measure the perimeter of a cylinder face, the resultant measurement will be the sum of the perimeters of both circular cylinder ends.

The most robust way to measure this would be with a datum analysis feature.

You can. For example I create a sketch of a circle with radius 2 and then extrude it.

I go to the measure tool and then select the edge of the circular face of the cylinder, this gives me half the circumference.

I hold ctrl and select the other non-selected half edge, this gives me the full circumference.

A method that I recently found which might be helpful is defining the perimeter in the sketch itself. I select the perimeter tool, select the circle, click ok in the pop up menu and then select the radius/diameter.

You can also click the face of the cylinder using the measure tool and it will give you the perimeter/circumference. (You may see that the perimeter measurements are a bit different in my previous reply and this one, I had modified the sketch resulting in this difference.)

Thanks, I'll have to remember that one. 🙂

Thank you, yea that makes sense. Seems when you select the edge itself, it will only select half of the circular edge feature. Never understood why it's like that.
