Office Sensitivity labels causing issues with family tables

So our company updated our office products to use the microsoft sensitivity labeling on documents. Now when editing family tables, one must select a label before opening the file. While this is a headache as sometimes the dialog isnt available on the alt+tab menu and must be navigated to from the task manager. The real issue is that sometimes when closing the excel file, Creo does not know it's been closed and nothing be clicked on. Even if I kill the excel process through the task manager, Creo is still waiting and clicking anywhere in the program results in the windows sound that I am clicking an invalid window.

Does anyone know any work arounds? It appears that the real issue is you must select a sensitivity label before editing the file.

PTC has created this article: With Microsoft add-in Purview, unable to use "Edit in Excel" for family table in Creo Parametric They are considering adding support for a future release but no commitment at this time. I am looking for an alternative work around in the mean time.

Hi,

configure sensitivity labeling using information located on https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/purview/sensitivity-labels page

Unfortunately, this is controlled by the company and cannot be changed.

Is there a base document that is used as a template for the family tables?

Unfortunately, all options are blocked by company policy.

Time to get your manager involved and have a talk with IT about what they are doing to engineering by limiting access to Excel from Creo.

I hate replying to old posts but how did everyone make out here? I would hope that I have a better relationship with IT than "go pound sand". I am in an alpha testing group and picked up this issue. This feature has been around forever. PTC is relying on a tmp1.xls file and I think this Purview add in changes that to book1.xlsx. It forces you to set a label before any save. I think we are going to see this conflict more as CMMC does main stream and we have to tag things as CUI. I have opened up a ticket with PTC and think it is in their court to fix this. Perhaps their integration is not standing the test of time, especially since they are still using .xls format. If anyone has deeper information that we can use to work around issue, let me know. I think if I could save the file with the right name and in the right folder its expecting, it should work. Where does it expect this file to be saved back to?

I've raised this issue to Tech Support: https://www.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/case.jsp?n=17950727

I will share what I hear back and any work arounds that we can come up with.
