Please return ability to use scroll wheel on drop-down menus

My company recently transitioned from Creo 10 to 13 (version 13.4.1.0), and one of the features I used regularly is no longer available, as far as I know.  I have been using the scroll wheel to change between items on drop-down menus - e.g., tolerances in drawings, joint statuses and definitions in welds, file type in the Save As window, and probably more - and it appears that that function no longer exists in Creo 13.  It was very convenient to my workflow, and I hope that this functionality can be restored in a future patch, or support personnel can direct me to a config option to fix this if it already exists.  Thank you

Hi @jcole-2,

I recently fielded a Support Case with a similar description (just isolated the File Type dropdown in the File > Open menu) but thank you for expanding this with additional fields.  During the investigation for that case, I encountered an internal SPR noting the same with a conclusion that this was blocked deliberately in order to reduce/prevent accidental scroll input changes for these fields.  I think this change occurred between 12.4.4.0 and 12.4.5.0 and starts with 13.4.0.0.

I would imagine that if this was created as a Product Idea, with enough support, perhaps an option would be added for users to choose this ability, understanding the risk involved.

From a personal perspective, I have free-spinning mouse wheel for both work and personal use.  A free-scrolling mouse is great for scrolling through logs and text files but when gaming, I’ve accidently switched my equipped item due to the scroll wheel sensitivity and used that item more often than I can count.

I hope this helps,

Mike

Works for me in 12.4 and Creo+ (2027.0.0.0) on several dropdowns that I tried.

Hey Mike,

Thank you for the in-depth reply!  That reasoning to avoid accidental scroll inputs is more or less what I expected, but good to have confirmation that it was an intentional change.  Although, thinking about how it did work, I’m actually skeptical that it was a major issue, since you first had to click the drop-down before scrolling, so there would have been a bit of a roadblock to accidentally change things.

I do hope that there will at some point be an option added to return that functionality, but from talking to others about it, I believe it was a more niche (though incredibly useful!) interaction, so I am not very hopeful that it will garner enough support to make a difference.  Still, if a person with the ability to make the change reads this, I would be incredibly grateful to get this back!

I’ve never used a free-spinning mouse, but I can imagine how that would make certain tasks easier.

Thanks again!
Jay
