Question

Special symbols for notes

I am trying to find a list of the special characters that are actually supported for notes in Creo (i.e. they don't appear as an empty box in the note). There are many times where I need to flag parts in a drawing with a special character like "▼" or "★".  The problem is Creo doesn't seem to fully support ASCII, HTML, or Unicode character sets so the only way to find the characters that work is by trial and error. Does anyone know of a complete list of the charters that will actual render in a note?

This question comes up every so often. To my knowledge PTC has never documented which ASCII character codes are supported. The most information on the use of these is found in the PTC install and admin guide but no list of what codes are valid AFAIK. With the addition of support for true type fonts you do now have the option of using a custom font to get the special characters. I have seen the custom font used to insert symbols into models and it works nicely but I did not create the font, so I am not sure how involved that is.

It all depends on what font you are using. Some fonts have more special characters than others. If you use a font or TrueType font, anyone who opens your file will also have to have the same font file installed. If the font is not found and the software cannot find a substitution, you get the empty box.

Unfortunately we aren't allowed to use TrueType fonts. I'm primarily looking for the symbols that are compatible with the "font" and "filled" standard fonts.

Hi,

FYI ...

<CREO_install_dir>\Creo 9.0.x.0\Common Files\text\usascii\font.ndx contains definition of font named font.

<CREO_install_dir>\Creo 9.0.x.0\Common Files\text\usascii\ascii.src contains definition of ASCII 0-127 characters

<CREO_install_dir>\Creo 9.0.x.0\Common Files\text\usascii\latin_1.src contains definition of ASCII 128+ characters
