Symbol groups created after Creo 9.0.0.0 that are set to exclusive don't work

I went to create some exclusive symbols today and discovered what appears to be a bug in the symbol editor affecting PTC Creo from version 9.0.0.0 through the current release. When creating a new symbol with groups set to exclusive, or when adding a new group to an older symbol instance, the selections made through Menu Manager are ignored and all entities are displayed instead of only the selected entities in the group.

Our current production version is 9.0.10.0, and I was able to reproduce the same behavior on clean installs of 9.0.11.0, 11.0.6.0, and 12.4.4.0.

I was originally trying to copy an existing symbol created in Creo 8.0.7.0 using the same group selections, but quickly noticed the issue when entities I had not selected continued to appear in the symbol. What makes this even stranger is that the preview for the exclusive group displays correctly, but once the symbol is placed in the drawing area it behaves as though the highest-level group is active, with all entities displayed.

Has anyone else run into this issue?

What's Selected in Exclusive Group
All Entities Display Regardless of Selection

Follow-up: after a full computer restart I’m no longer able to reproduce the issue and groups are now behaving normally again. At this point I’m wondering if something became corrupted in session memory or somewhere graphics/cache related. I honestly have no idea how something like this would propagate consistently across multiple Creo versions and then suddenly disappear 😤
