Topology optmization - Circular geometry does not converge

Hello PTC community

I am trying to solve a Topology optimization problem (CREO 10.0.9.0) for a rotating disc, but it is not converging properly.

Here is a simplified version of the problem I am trying to solve.

1) starting geometry = full disc

2) preserve geometries = Center and exterior portion of the disc

3) Axis have a cylindrical support

4) Contact defined between shaft and disc

5) Centrifugal force added in the center axis direction

criteria below:

6) I tried mass reduction or stiffness and both did not converged correct

7) I am defining symmetric distribution around axis and symmetric between central plane

😎 material is defined with standard properties

This is the result I am getting

I tryied, axissymetric model as well (pie slice), it did not work as well.

Any suggestions what I am doing wrong or how to set this problem properly?

I think you need to increase the limit in the design criteria.

In your screenshot, the optimisation result is 65.9%.
Try with an optimisation limit of 60-65% instead of 50%.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah after change the limits I got a convergence.

HI @EP_14383459

Please note that when setting the limit percentage, the volume is also included in the preserved geometry.

From the screenshot you shared, it appears that the preserved geometry accounts for more than half of the volume.

If you want to restrict only the design space, I recommend trying a different strategy where the design space is set to 100%, and the other bodies are in contact with it.

Thanks
