variable pitch thread

I want to create a variable pitch thread on a cylindrical part such that the material removed surface (quilt) should be selected as a whole, I tried variable pitch in sweep as well as using equation method whenever I select the surface it will show only half the surface as the selected surface i can't select the surface as a whole feature. please help me to rectify this........

Maybe try switching the selection filter? There is, under datum feature dropdown, a reference datum feature. You an select individual surfaces into a collection of surfaces t0 make it an intent "selection".
