Question

another WF5 UI complaint

Hi,

In WF3 and before, there was a status bar at the bottom of the screen
that told the feature name of what was being pre-highlighted. This was
great because the name was populated immediately - where the "tool-tip"
at the cursor pops up after a second - or two - or three...

There were other useful items displayed in this bar that I cannot
remember what they showed. Is anyone seeing this in WF5? If so, do you
know how to turn it on?

I am running M050, Win7 x64.

Thanks.

-Nate

The only place to even remotely get any type of information like this is now located at the top left of the screen. The component highlighting in a "message list" is completely gone now. It's actually more difficult to see the intended component nowadays.

One of these turn that on in WF5 (in the top tool bar), summary_help OR provide_pick_message_always

Funny how many users never used this but I can't live without it.

Thanks Vaughn! Now I just have to train my eyes to go to the top of the
screen instead of the bottom.

I wonder why the default setting for "summary_help" is "no".

We used to be able to set the number of lines visible in the session
info messages, too. Now it defaults to 1 line? That seems pretty
useless...

Nathan,

To add extra message lines, set the config.pro option
visible_message_lines

Unless something has changed, the option ‘visible_message_lines’ is useless.  I’ve set it in WF2, WF3 and WF4 and it ends up being 1 no matter what once the dashboard appears.  I tried complaining to PTC and they said “intended functionality” - it only sets the initial visible message lines, does not guarantee a number of lines will always be visible.

It’s ridiculous since most messages are 2-4 lines and the important bits are usually not in the last line.

Doug,

You are correct when you state that the message lines switch back to 1 after
the dashboard opens. I actuallypull the dashboard down to reveal more message
lines.I only need to do this one time per module that I am using. IE: Proe,
assembly, mfg, etc.

The message line visibility remainsuntil I exit Proe.

Anyone have an idea of why some of my sketch dimensions show up with more or less decimal places? I am really confused as to why in the picture on dimension has 3 places and the other dimension has 6 places???
