Failed Mass Props Feature

I've got a model that regens fully with no geometry checks except the mass_props feature in the footer fails. When trying to redefine it the CS is missing, but the "Use Default" box is checked. Further more, this features is defined in the client start part and this is how all the other models are configured.
When redefining the feature (or when performing a manual mass props calculation), I get the following in the message area:
- Doing preliminary Mass Props calculation.
* Accumulated errors for mass properties of part 053-2634-01 can cause long calculations.
- Mass properties calculation of part 'part' is 100% complete.
* WARNING: Requested accuracy not guaranteed.
- Cannot compute Mass Properties: data error.
A forced regen via the model player did not help.
This started with a significant change to the skeleton driving this part. The skeleton had been changed to absolute accuracy and a surface copy in this part failed, so I changed it to absolute accuracy as well. This fixed the geometry problem, but the mass props issue remains.
How do I correct this?
