I am trying to simulate effect of wind load on glass railing holder which is fitted to ground via. screws. so after defining the constraints , contacts and loads when I review the results I observe that the glass holder penetrates into the ground. see attached screenshot.
Can you please advise why is it so and how can it be resolved? I would appreciate your help with it.
1. Your loads are in metric, but your last slide is in psi which is confusing. The last slide that shows the deformation is not in units of length so its impossible to tell how much its actually deforming.
2. Not sure if your UDL includes the 1G weight of the structure, but if not you might want to consider that load.
3. Fasteners are not good at carrying moments by themselves. If you look at other railing designs they usually have a 4 bolt pattern so that when moments are applied the fasteners go into tension. A quick hand calc with a moment applied to a single fastener will demonstrate this for you.
4. I have not used the component to component contact myself. I would suggest changing that to be surface to surface. Contact surfaces work by adding springs in between the surfaces and then iterating increasing the spring stiffnesses until the parts don't interfere anymore. If this isn't working for you, you could always just add in springs yourself. Be aware though that very short stiff springs can cause FEA to produce incorrect results.
