Poisson's ratio in 3d Contacts

Hi

I would like to know the logic behind asking for poisson's ratio when creating a 3d contact. Creo solves MDO by rigid body motions and contact forces are modeled by penetration depths if i'm correct. But Poisson's ratio really means deformation in square directions, so how exactly does it effect results when bodies are completely inelastic in the analysis.
