Structural Analysis without Constraints

Hi.

 

How come that Structural analysis can be run without any constraints?

Does it automatically assume Inertia Relief?

 

In the attached picture you can see simple example:

- Geometry: Cube

- Loads: 1 Force in X direction

- Constraints: None

This sort of analysis would fail in Creo Simulate. 

 

Simulation Live should show a note or a warning that Inertia Relief is used, if no Constraints are used.

Creo Simulation Live does currently allow you to run a simulation without constraints.  An internal inertia relief is added.  We rely on the Ansys solver to handle an underconstrained model.  If you look closely at the deformation animation...you'll see every part of the model is moving a bit.

 

As long as a user is consistent in their simulations (with or without constraints) within Creo Simulation Live...you'll still be able to make simulation driven design changes without constraints.  In my opinion, you should constrain the models according to how they perform in the real world and not let the solver determine it.

 

It will be a consideration for us to put a warning during the simulation that the model looks to be underconstrained in the future.

    Hi,

     

    Here is one more follow up on this discussion.  The default behavior for an unconstrained structural simulation has changed with Creo 5.0.4.0 release.  The default behavior is to not produce results if a constraint is not in the model.  We expect this to be the behavior moving forward.
