Hi,

Hopefully this isa quick and easy query...

If I want to publish straight to a DMP Image where should I install the DMP application? on the PE server or on the local machine that may be used to initiate the publish?

Thanks

Pete

I can't help! So far, I only use DMP as a standalone application. That
said, I would expect Publishing Engine to have the DMP binaries. Whether
you need to install it or not, though, I'm not sure. I know it can be
downloaded separately, but if you're using it integrated with PE, I'm not
    sure you have to.

    Hi Pete,

So I'm sure we're referring to the same things, when you refer to "installing the DMP application" are you referring to the DMP software that allows you to create DMP images, or the Digital Media Consumer needed to run and view the image (which can be deployed as a web app, integrated into an application as online help, run from CD, or installed locally)?

I'm pretty sure you're talking about the DMP software. If that's the case, then it comes down to licensing and access. If you install DMP locally, you'll need a separate license for DMP, and only that PC will have the ability to create DMP images. If you install DMP on the Publishing Engine server, then no additional licensing is required, it's all covered under the PE license. Additionally, everyone using that PE can create DMP images. You do need to install it separately on the PE server, though. It doens't come bundled.

That's my understanding of DMP, at least. Hope it helps. I've been working on deploying a DMP image as a web application using websphere for the past few months. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Hi Brett,

Yes, I'm talking about the DMP application and not DMC.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will try it out, wonder when PTC will release a 64 bit version 🙂

    Cheers

    Pete
