CGM version identification

If I receive a list of cgms, is there a way to identify what version (1, 2, 3 or 4) the cgms are?

If you mean using Arbortext, then I don't know of any function to do that. There are so-called "file type magic" tools which can scan any file and pickup the type. Perhaps one of these will work? For example, on my Mac (and most Linux computers) they include the command-line app "file" for this function.
