Citations, Bibliorefs

How are people managing citations and/or bibliorefs in Arbortext Editor.

We have thousands of references in our content that can also be re-used in other topics. Basically, we copy paste references from topic to topic. Would like the ability to update reference once and have it referenced in many topics.

Has anyone implemented a citation manager to be used with Arbortext, e.g. Zotero? EndNote?  RefWorks etc.

If so, how does it work? How do they integrate.

Some of our major commercial clients have integrated Arbortext with Crossref for validation of references.

Arbortext used to have a product "Dynamic Link Manager" which registered all cross-references and their targets. That has been off the market for probably 10 years or more. We have implemented this functionality in a custom database application for another client.

Long story short, I think you would need a customisation to enable a smarter way of handling references.

We created a topic with the references in it. Gave each one an ID. Then we created a second referenced topic, where we content referenced the original. We then copy the xrefd version into our manuals. This way if it needs to be updated it is easy. Could probably do it with keys also.
