Copying and pasting text in pdf shows )

We publish our files ps and distill them to get the file down to a manageable file size. We have found that if you select some text in the pdf you get ) instead of words. If I go to edit pdf in Acrobat it tells me that the font is calibri so It seems to find the font. Where do I look for the issue.

It seems if you choose copy with formatting instead of copy, it will copy the text as shown. Is there a way to ensure that does not have to be done.

I suspect this has to do with font subset embedding. If you embed only a subset of the font, it only includes the glyphs that are used in the document, and I think in that case it uses a custom encoding to index the reduced set of characters.

 

I would try tweaking your distiller settings to embed full fonts instead of subsets and see if that helps.
