How remove extra whitespace in-between tags in DITA XML?

Anyone know of an automated way of removing whitespace in-between tags in DITA XML, like the HTML utility tool does called "Tidy"?

<bar> <tag>Good text</tag> </bar>

These whitespaces get introduced in our automated translations processes, by the way, not while editing in the Arbortext Editor, of course.
